Sustainability And Social Responsibility Commitment

A key part of MEG Ceramics is my commitment to long term sustainability and responsible business practices. I am committed to doing everything in my power to discover and learn as much as I can to make the best decisions I can for the earth, for my customers and my business.

I will continue to do everything in my power to understand the supply chain, make the most sustainable decisions I can, understand any risk areas, offset carbon emissions and trace materials back to source.

It is my belief that we should tread lightly on this incredible planet of ours. And leave it as we found it for generations to come. It is about respecting the people and the environment around us and I strive to work with others who share the same values.

In looking to this future, we also need to acknowledge out important past.

We respectfully acknowledge the First Nations People of Country throughout Australia, we acknowledge the cultural and spiritual connection that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have with the land and sea. We pay our respects to Elders past and present as well as the existing and emerging leaders who walk together in partnership on this journey. We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of this beautiful land where we gather and work, the Nyoongar Whadjuk people in Perth, Western Australia.

MEG Ceramics produces only products which are timeless in design, manufactured to last, and are made with sustainability in mind at all times. All products in store are ethically made, handcrafted locally (in Perth, WA, Australia). Clay and natural and organic materials are a core focus, so when a product does reach the end of it's long life, it can safely be returned to the earth.

All unfired clay is recycled within the MEG Ceramics studio. Fired pieces which do break may be repurposed with the repair technique called Kinsugi. The Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold, making the flaw beautiful. Other samples and second pieces are used in my own private home as well as put on sale for a discounted price. There are also many other ways to upcycle and recycle broken ceramics, get creative!

The courier service used is Sendle which is a 100% carbon neutral delivery company. So you can feel confident knowing your deliveries are gentle on the planet. Packaging is beautiful, yet sustainable and minimal in order to limit waste.

Local/Australian products are used where possible. Where there is no industry for certain products/materials within Australia, I always seek partners that share my vision and are committed to their social and environmental responsibilities.

I am currently researching further opportunities to reduce any impact on carbon emissions and make the stores footprint as minimal as possible.

Solar has recently been installed in order to decrease power usage.
