These bottles are also beneficial, where stainless steel and glass materials are only neutral. Copper is naturally antimicrobial and one of the most hygienic containers to store your water in. Interestingly, some hospitals even use copper if high use areas such as doorknobs because of this.
In Ayurvedic tradition, water is left overnight in the bottle and sipped in the morning to provide extra health benefits. Copper has been used for thousands of years to store water (when there were no filters or purifiers) for its strong antibacterial properties. According to ancient Ayurvedic texts, copper balances all three doshas or elements in the body (Vata, Pitta and Kapha). Whether this is for you or not, copper provides a whole host of health benefits (see below).

Your copper bottle activates a powerful trifecta of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and naturally anti-microbial properties, to engage your digestion, joint health and red blood cells. In turn it: aids digestive disorders, assists in the absorption of iron, helps regulates function of the thyroid gland, enables melanin production to protect the body from sun damage, stimulates cell regeneration to help wounds heal faster and sooth joint pain and keeps skin looking its best
Leaving water sitting overnight in the bottle allows the water to absorb some copper ions in trace amounts aiding the above benefits. The copper ions take 8-10 hours to ‘charge up” the water. If you do not want charged water you can still enjoy the antibacterial benefits which are always active.
For powerhouse benefits from the get go rinse 2-3 time before use with warm water (and a mild detergent if you wish). Wipe the exterior then leave to air dry.
Smear the inside rim with oil to stop the “squeaking”.
Your new bottle is intended for pure water only. It doesn't take kindly to acidic or flavoured drinks, nor dishwashers or dishwashing soaps with bleaching agents or alcohol, it's rosy skin will turn green with envy! The harsh chemicals will shorten the life span and tarnish its metallic body.
It is recommended to avoid hot drinks, copper is an amazing conductor of heat and the bottle is not insulated. For antarctic-cool water, place you bottle in the fridge to chill to summer bliss perfection.
Copper is alive and constantly moving with changes in temperature. Although there is a seal, we encourage you to keep your new bottle upright in their bags as much as possible to prevent any leaks on a hot day when the bottle neck may have expanded. In the heat, it expands. In the cold, it contracts. A natural property of copper.
An exciting quality of your bottle is that it will develop a natural patina and darken to a new hue. A sign that it is actually made of pure copper. The originality of each bottle as it wears has its own special story to tell.
To restore shine (outside), wash with a homemade vinegar-salt solution, or easier still, rub the bottle with a half lemon sprinkled in salt. Rinse well with water and leave to air dry naturally.
For inside, throw in a handful of uncooked rice, a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar, pinch of salt and a tiny splash of water to get it all moving. Shake it all around. The rice exfoliates and polishes the inside and helps neutralise any smells. The lemon juice/vinegar is acidic and strips any grime out and polishes the copper. Rinse well and leave to dry.

Q & A:
Should particular circumstances prevent you in drinking from copper (pregnancy, adrenal fatigue, immune disorders, zinc depletion or stress)?
Pregnancy does not prevent women from using their copperware as normal. However, if you wanted to be extra wary, continue using you bottle as normal, but don’t let the water sit overnight before drinking. Anything shorter than (8-10 hours) that time frame isn’t known to supercharge the water, but the natural anti-microbial properties of copper are still in effect.
Storing water in pure copper only adds the minutest trace of copper well below the RDA, and the water is only supercharged after it has been stored in the bottle for at least 8-10 hours. In these trace amounts it is beneficial for the body in the ways that has been detailed above, and is not known to be large enough to be harmful.
The introduction of this additional copper in trace amounts to our system, should not hamper zinc absorption, nor induce other negative repercussions. The depletion of zinc in our bodies can be attributable to a whole host of other reasons including lifestyle choices, immune disorders and most prominently, stress.
Is the water altered in taste?
No, the taste of the water is not altered if the water is drunk regularly. If the water is left sitting in there for a long time, the taste may alter slightly.
